President Mark Schlissel on Saturday outlined how U-M is working to help members of the university community amid potential changes in federal immigration policies. He reiterated U-M’s commitment to protect the rights and opportunities of international scholars, and that it will “continue to identify, recruit, support and retain academic talent, at all levels, from around the world.”

Tickets for the bicentennial celebration “True Blue! A Tribute to Michigan” will go on sale Feb. 3. The event takes place April 8 at Hill Auditorium, bringing together students, faculty and alumni in a live-action multimedia presentation that tells the story of U-M.

Body of work
Serena Williams has more Grand Slam tournament victories than any tennis player in history, and is recognized as one of the greatest athletes of this or any era. Nonetheless, she receives almost as much attention for the way she looks. In this video, Yago Colás, professor of comparative literature and the Residential College, uses Williams as an example to explore issues of race and gender in sports, and why women athletes must still contend with idealized norms of physical female beauty that are often incompatible with peak athletic performance.

The U-M Museum of Art is transforming how it connects with its nearly 250,000 annual visitors by extending its free admission philosophy to free membership. UMMA aims to promote its free membership program widely to encourage engagement with both novice and experienced visitors.
