U-M will review sexual misconduct policies and procedures

President Mark Schlissel said Thursday the University of Michigan would engage an outside expert to review its policies and practices to be sure U-M is doing all it can to prevent and respond to reports of sexual misconduct in all aspects of the university community.

Saint Joseph Mercy, U-M proceed with Chelsea joint venture

Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the university, have signed a definitive agreement to establish a master affiliation and a joint venture for the 133-bed St. Joseph Mercy Chelsea hospital, effective immediately.

Thirty new modular cabins to be built at Camp Davis

The University of Michigan's Camp Davis Rocky Mountain Field Station in Wyoming will have 30 new cabins to accommodate 120 campers by the summer of 2019.

The $6.5 million project was approved by the university's Board of Regents during its meeting Thursday. Funding will be provided from LSA gifts and resources.

Domenico Grasso named next chancellor of UM-Dearborn

Domenico Grasso, an engineering professor who also served as provost and chief academic officer at the University of Delaware, has been selected as the next chancellor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn. His appointment is effective Aug 1.

Four faculty members honored as Arthur F. Thurnau Professors

Four faculty members have been recognized for outstanding contributions to undergraduate education as this year's Arthur F. Thurnau Professors.

The 2018 honorees, approved Thursday by the Board of Regents and effective July 1, are Eric F. Bell, Jason P. De León, Jason P. McCormick and Ellen H. Rowe.

Second parking structure to be constructed on Wall Street

The university plans to build a second parking structure on Wall Street to accommodate the continued demand for parking.

The $39.5 million project was approved by the Board of Regents at its meeting Thursday. Funding will be provided from Logistics, Transportation & Parking resources.

President Mark Schlissel urged elected leaders to pass a tax-reform bill that protects the interests, futures and aspirations of college students and doctoral candidates in his remarks at Thursday's Board of Regents meeting.

Ann Arbor, Dearborn, Flint campuses submit capital outlay requests

The University of Michigan's Ann Arbor, Flint and Dearborn campuses each submitted requests for capital funding and a five-year capital plan to the state of Michigan.

When a project is made possible through capital outlay funding, the cost is allocated between the university and the state of Michigan.

U-M endowment rebounds to $10.9B with 13.8 percent return

New investments through the Victors for Michigan fundraising campaign and a strong rate of return on investments pushed the market value of the University of Michigan endowment to $10.9 billion at the end of the 2017 fiscal year. A year ago, the endowment was valued at $9.7 billion.

Yost Arena ice rink named to honor longtime hockey coach Red Berenson

Red Berenson was honored for his 33 seasons of coaching Michigan ice hockey Thursday when the rink inside Yost Arena was officially named the Red Berenson Rink at Yost Ice Arena.

The Board of Regents approved an addition to the historic arena's naming structure at its monthly meeting, which took place on the UM-Flint campus.
