Ann Arbor, Dearborn campuses ask state for capital outlay funds

The U-M Ann Arbor and Dearborn campuses each submitted requests for capital funding and a five-year capital plan to the State of Michigan.

When a project is made possible through capital outlay funding, the cost is allocated between the university and the State of Michigan.

Regents approve renovation of Pierpont Commons Cafe

The Board of Regents on Thursday approved renovation of the Pierpont Commons Cafe, which will provide a new dining experience on North Campus with more seating and study space for students, faculty and staff.

S. Jack Hu named interim vice president for research

The Board of Regents on Thursday approved the appointment of S. Jack Hu, a professor in the College of Engineering, as the interim vice president for research for a two-year term, effective Jan. 1.

As vice president, Hu will have overall responsibility for nurturing the excellence and integrity of research across the entire campus.

Regents praise Coleman in final review; approve bonus

President Mary Sue Coleman was lauded as a strong leader in the effort to keep college affordable as the Board of Regents offered its last annual review of the university’s 13th president. Coleman will retire from U-M in July 2014.

Board of Regents schedules strategic session in January 2014

The Board of Regents will cancel its formal session in January 2014 to instead meet in an informal, strategic session in New York City. The meetings will take place Jan. 16-17. Board Chair Andrea Fischer Newman made the announcement Friday during the board’s meeting on the UM-Flint campus.

University endowment reaches historic high of $8.4 billion

The University of Michigan endowment grew to its highest point ever — $8.4 billion for the fiscal year ended June 30.  The U-M endowment is ranked as the second-largest endowment in the nation among public universities and the seventh-largest among all U.S. universities.
