Victor M. Hawthorne, professor emeritus of epidemiology in the University of Michigan School of Public Health and in the Department of Family Practice in the School of Medicine, died in Lansing, Michigan, on Nov. 23, 2014, of heart failure. He was 93.

Philip E. Converse, an authority on public opinion and electoral behavior and a U-M professor emeritus of sociology and political science, died Dec. 30, 2014, in Ann Arbor. He was 86.

Mark Davis, a retired IT manager at the University of Michigan, died Nov. 2 at the age of 65.
Davis, who lived in Canton, retired in 2012 from U-M after 20 years of service in the Reproductive Sciences CLASS lab.
He was an avid supporter of WRCJ, the Detroit Public radio station.
Eloise Ruth (Edson) Snyder, retired publications director for the Institute of Gerontology, died Oct. 13 at home in Burcham Hills, East Lansing, where she had lived for the past five years. She was 93.

Michigan Athletics lost one of its longtime former employees when retired public and media relations director Jim Schneider died July 21. Schneider worked with the football, baseball and ice hockey programs during his 30 years with the athletic department.

He was born Feb. 3, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn. He was the son of prominent lawyer Leo K. Eaton and Elizabeth Barber Eaton. He excelled as an intercollegiate swimmer at Williams College and graduated in 1943 as a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
