    New room to recharge

    Marisa Streelman, strategic adviser in the Office of the Chief Nurse Executive at U-M Health, demonstrates the Flourish Recharge Room technology for Martin Tuck, whose contribution in memory of his late wife made the room possible. Recently, Michigan Medicine became the first health care system in the Midwest to bring Recharge Rooms to its employees. These innovative, immersive mental health interventions were designed to support the well-being and resilience of the hospital’s health care workers.     UMCI groundbreaking

    The U-M Center for Innovation in Detroit broke ground Dec. 14 in a ceremony featuring leaders of the partners bringing the project to fruition. The $250 million center in downtown Detroit is designed to be a world-class research, education and entrepreneurship center to advance innovation and talent-focused community development.     Well-being and mental health

    In his December video message, President Santa J. Ono encouraged members of the U-M community to take time to assess their well-being and mental health. Ono highlighted LSA’s optiMize, which offers special wellness programming to support students. In this month’s Portrait of a Wolverine, Ono recognized Chief Health Officer Robert Ernst for his work with the Well-being Collective, help establishing a public health response team and other support for a healthy U-M community.

    Adaptive Sports and Inclusive Recreation Initiative

    U-M’s Adaptive Sports & Fitness program aims to provide equitable access to and participation in adaptive sports and fitness among people with and without disabilities in the Ann Arbor community. This video explains how the Adaptive Sports and Inclusive Recreation Initiative, funded by the Michigan Health Endowment Fund, embeds an adaptive sports curriculum into the physical education programming at middle schools. It recently received an additional grant of about $650,000 from Michigan Medicine to expand the program from sixth grade to seventh and eighth, and into Ypsilanti public schools as well as Ann Arbor.
