Social work professor’s bridal shop helps those living with cancer

Barb Hiltz understands the healing power of a wedding dress. As co-founder of The Brides Project in Ann Arbor, Hiltz, clinical assistant professor of social work, collects donated wedding dresses and sells them at a heavy discount to brides. Proceeds go toward the Cancer Support Community of Greater Ann Arbor.

Angell’s diplomatic journey to China

U-M President James Burrill Angell once played a crucial role in negotiating two treaties with China — an immigration treaty at the behest of the U.S. government, and a second trade treaty drafted by the Chinese, which in part enacted an absolute ban on Chinese-American commerce in opium.
