The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners recognized U-M for “contributing to the inclusiveness and employment opportunities for persons with disabilities in Washtenaw County” by presenting a resolution of appreciation during its Nov. 19 board meeting.
“This recognition is a reflection of the University’s commitment to diversity and collaboration with the community to provide equal opportunity and access to persons with disabilities,” says Carole Dubritsky, assistant director and Americans with Disabilities Act coordinator at the Office of Institutional Equity, who accepted the resolution on the University’s behalf.
The commendation includes recognition of the University’s programs to create employment for individuals with significant disabilities, vocational rehabilitation services to employees of the University through its Work~Connections and MWorks programs, and the development of the Initiative on Disability Studies (UMInDS) to increase diversity by integrating the study of disability into research, scholarship and teaching.
In addition, the commissioners also recognized the Department of Physical Medicine’s collaboration with the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living, and University efforts to create a more accessible stadium.
