U-M shares campus hammock policy, updates poster guidelines

Topics:

The University of Michigan has established a new policy that outlines safe, appropriate and temporary use of hammocks and slacklines while considering the health and preservation of trees on the Ann Arbor campus. Guidelines related to posting materials on campus have also been updated.

The hammocks and slackline policy notes they are for short-term use and provides guidance on location, time and maximum occupancy, as well as tree size and hanging-height requirements to ensure equipment is used safely. Hammocks and slacklines that remain past sundown will be removed and disposed of.

Members of the campus community are reminded that flyers and postings are allowed on the round kiosks across campus. Those placed on other elements of campus, including on buildings and sidewalks, are not allowed and will be removed by U-M Grounds staff without notice.

Under the updated guidelines, kiosks will be cleared on the first and third Wednesdays of each month, and as needed if flyers are damaged or become overcrowded, to reduce campus litter. Previously, flyers and posters remained until the end of the term or they became damaged.
