U-M launches tool to report off-campus COVID-19 positive test results

A new survey tool for reporting positive COVID-19 test results from outside of the University of Michigan is available to the U-M community to assist with prompt case investigation, contact tracing and to measure the overall illness in the university community.

MORE INFORMATION

The self-reporting COVID-19 survey, which launched Nov. 3, is intended to capture information for appropriate follow-up for U-M and Michigan Medicine faculty, staff and students on the Ann Arbor campus who have tested positive for COVID-19 — including PCR, antigen and antibody tests — within the past 90 days outside of the university.

Participants who have tested positive through University Health Service, Occupational Health Services or the Community Sampling and Tracking Program do not need to take part in the survey, as those cases have been accounted for.

The information collected is shared with the appropriate units for follow-up including University Health Service; Environment, Health & Safety; Occupational Health Services; and Infection Prevention & Epidemiology.

University or county health officials may reach out for case investigation and contact tracing, and the information gathered also will help target resources for testing, support and mitigation.

The university also plans to use results from the survey to help monitor trends in test results reported over time, and provide an early indicator of potential outbreaks.

The reporting tool is separate from the test reporting required for the U-M Departure Testing Program available to undergraduate and graduate students to ensure they can safely return to their permanent residences and surrounding communities at the end of the fall semester.

Departure testing is mandatory for undergraduate students living in Michigan Housing, and strongly encouraged for all graduate students and undergraduate students living off-campus.

The UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint campuses have established their own separate reporting outlets for positive COVID-19 results.

UM-Dearborn students with positive COVID-19 test results should call 313-593-5056 and UM-Flint students should complete the Student COVID-19 Illness Reporting Form and call 810-762-5728 for questions.
