Temporary closures, detours for President Obama’s appearance

A temporary road closure, parking lot closures and bus detours will be in place Wednesday for President Obama’s speaking event at the Intramural Sports Building on the Ross Athletic Campus.

East Hoover Avenue between Greene Street and South State Street will be closed beginning Wednesday morning and will reopen soon after the event has concluded in the late afternoon.

There also will be a temporary full closure, beginning at 1 p.m., of South Main Street south of East Hoover, and of East Hoover between South Main and South State during the arrival of the presidential motorcade.

Parking lots SC2, SC11, SC32, SC35, and SC41 will close Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m. and will be restricted on Wednesday to invited event guests only.

In addition, Lot SC37 near Revelli Hall, Lot SC38 at Elbel Field, and all Athletic Department parking lots south of East Hoover and north of the Wilpon Baseball and Softball Complex will be closed, with no vehicle or pedestrian access allowed until after the event.

All other U-M permit-controlled parking lots on the Ross Athletic Campus and Central Campus will be open for regular employee and student parking, including lots SC4, SC5, SC6, SC7, SC9, and SC36.

U-M Commuter North and Commuter South buses will follow detoured routes through the Ross Athletic Campus and Central Campus beginning at 6 a.m. Wednesday morning, and will return to their regular routes after the event concludes in the late afternoon.

    I am thrilled and honored that President Obama will be visiting our campus. Wish I could attend the event in person.
