With the loss of manufacturing jobs throughout the state, and the closure of the Pfizer research facility locally, area health and human service agencies are squeezed with a higher demand for care and fewer financial resources to meet those needs.
With that as a backdrop, President Mary Sue Coleman and U-M Hospitals CEO Douglas Strong kicked off the campus United Way campaign last week and encouraged University colleagues to participate and increase their contributions to address the disparities.
With pledge materials, e-mails and departmental efforts, employees will see evidence of a focused campaign from Oct. 22-Nov. 22.
There are two easy ways to make a pledge: the traditional pledge card or add a payroll deduction via Wolverine Access.
The United Way pledge cards have been mailed to every employee and should arrive via campus mail this week. Employees can add a payroll deduction under the “Employee Business” section of Wolverine Access at any time.

Each week during the campaign, an employee name is drawn from the list of all pledges received. Different prizes will be awarded including Ann Arbor Gold certificates and tickets to various performances hosted by the University Musical Society.
