Photo: Tile Quilts at University Hospital

A 2008 Golden Paintbrush award was presented to Karim Motawi & Nawal Motawi of Motawi Tileworks and to Anne Parker of the U-M Hospitals’ Interior Design Division for Tile Quilts — tile murals in the University Hospital elevator lobbies. In creating the work, Motawi designers mixed glazed field tile with decorative multi-colored polychrome tile, producing collages like fabric quilts. The awards honor individuals and groups who contribute to the public art of Ann Arbor. Mayor John Hieftje presented the awards June 2 at City Hall. (Photo courtesy Motawi Tileworks)
