Despite the name changes, the benefit plans PHP and Magellan Rx have managed on behalf of U-M members will remain the same.
Physicians Health Plan administers U-M’s Michigan Care Plan for active faculty and staff, and its Michigan Care Advantage Plan for retirees.
These members will receive new identification cards in December as PHP’s transition to UM Health Plan ends. The cards will be mailed in nondescript white envelopes, and members should check their letters carefully.
U-M’s Open Enrollment materials will refer to PHP/UM Health Plan and Physicians Health Plan/University of Michigan Health Plan through December.
Magellan Rx, which administers U-M’s Prescription Drug Plan, will become Prime Therapeutics on Oct. 1. As with the PHP/UM Health Plan transition, this is a name change only. Members do not need to notify their pharmacies, nor will they receive new ID cards.
Members will notice a new logo in messages from Magellan Rx as it switches to its new name, as well as changes to the member portal. ID cards issued after Oct. 1 will display the Prime Therapeutics logo.
Open Enrollment 2025 communications will refer to Magellan Rx/Prime Therapeutics.
Open Enrollment for 2025 benefits will run Oct. 21 through 5 p.m. Nov. 1. This is a once-a-year opportunity to change health, dental, vision and legal benefits.
New benefits elections and rates take effect Jan. 1, 2025. No action is needed if members are satisfied with their current benefits. Their elections will continue through 2025. However, enrollment in Flexible Spending Accounts must be completed every year. For the most current information, check the U-M Open Enrollment website.
