U-M instructional and research track faculty are invited to apply for the 2008 Michigan Road Scholars Tour, a traveling five-day seminar that takes participants across the state.
This ninth annual educational tour will expose participants to the state’s economy, government and politics, culture, educational systems, health and social issues, history and geography.
Designed to increase mutual knowledge and understanding between the University and the people and communities of the state, the tour also will encourage University service to the public, and suggest ways faculty can help address state and local issues. In addition, organizers hope the experience will promote interdisciplinary discussion among the touring faculty.
A faculty advisory committee chaired by 1999 Road Scholar Frank Ascione, dean of the School of Pharmacy, a will select 30 participants for the April 28-May 2 tour.
The Office of Government Relations and the Office of the Provost jointly fund the tour, which is planned and staffed by the State Outreach office in the Office of the Vice President for Government Relations.
All meals, accommodations and transportation will be provided. Participants will receive a briefing book with pertinent background on state issues, travel locations and community presenters.
The tour will include stops in southeastern, western, mid-, and northern Michigan including parts of the Upper Peninsula.
