MHealthy offers faculty and staff wellness screenings, $100 reward

MHealthy today launches its annual Rewards program, an opportunity for benefits-eligible faculty and staff to start the new year off knowing their numbers, learning more about their health and setting health goals.

The 2014 program includes completing a confidential wellness screening and the 2014 StayWell health questionnaire. Once completed, employees will earn a $100 before-tax reward in their paycheck, and have a chance to win one of several $500 gift cards.

Wellness screening

Registration opens today for free on-site screenings. During the 30-minute confidential appointment, participants will have their cholesterol, blood pressure and glucose checked, then talk with a StayWell health professional about their health goals.

Screenings start Jan. 7 and continue through mid-April. To encourage early participation, employees who attend an on-site screening during the first three weeks in January can enter weekly bonus drawings to win a Fitbit activity and wellness monitor.

Employees who have gotten or plan to get their biometric numbers measured by their health care provider between April 1, 2013 and April 1, 2014, can use those numbers instead of attending an on-site screening. A health care provider form will be available on the MHealthy Rewards website that the employee can print and give to his or her health care provider to submit directly to StayWell.

“We continue to refine our Rewards program to make it as easy as possible for you to learn important information about your health, set personal health goals and earn your $100 incentive,” says LaVaughn Palma-Davis, senior director of University Health & Well-Being Services.

“If you’ve already seen your doctor and had your cholesterol and blood pressure checked, use these numbers to complete the program. If not, attend a free, 30-minute on-site screening, which will be available on all university campuses in the day, evening and on select weekends.”

Health questionnaire

The confidential health questionnaire opens Jan. 3. It takes 15 minutes to complete, and employees will receive a personalized health report with useful information about available resources. Participants who have completed the questionnaire in the past (2009-13) also will be able to compare their health results from year to year. The health questionnaire must be completed by April 18.

Nikki Benschoter says she participates in MHealthy Rewards so she can stay on top of her health and set goals.

“I like the fact that the screening and health questionnaire don’t take long and that all of my information is kept confidential,” says Benschoter, a patient representative for UMHS Environmental Services. “The screening, personalized report and action plan give me the motivation to improve my health just a little more every year.”

StayWell Health Management®, a national provider of health improvement services, administers both the wellness screening and health questionnaire. StayWell is legally bound to protect employee privacy and will not share any personally identifiable health information with the university.

MHealthy will again recognize those university departments that achieve 50 percent participation.
