To recognize its 60th anniversary as a leader in social science surveys and research, the Institute for Social Research (ISR) will hold a reception June 19 at Rackham Auditorium, followed by a brief invited address and panel discussions.
Among ISR’s signature studies are some of the most widely cited, influential and long-running surveys in the world, including the Reuters/U-M Surveys of Consumers, the Monitoring the Future Study, and the American National Election Study.
ISR is home to the interdisciplinary, graduate-level Program in Survey Methodology, and trains students from around the world in its long-running summer programs in survey sampling and quantitative data analysis. The institute also houses the world’s largest archive of digital social science data.
Events that are open to the public and members of the university community include:

• 2:30 p.m. — Keynote address, Sir Roger Jowell, director of the Centre for Comparative Social Surveys, City University, London, UK
• 3 p.m. — Panel discussion, “Challenges of an Aging Society”
• 4:30 p.m. — Panel discussion, “Future of Social/Behavioral Science Measurement”
