In honor of the 50th anniversary of the U-M Press publication in the Russian language of Boris Pasternak’s “Dr. Zhivago,” a symposium is being presented from 2-5:30 p.m. March 27 in the Gallery in Room 100, Hatcher Graduate Library.
Symposium events include an examination of the writing of this classic work, the controversy surrounding its publication in Russian and other languages in the context of the Cold War, its publication in Ann Arbor by the U-M Press, and poetry within the novel.
Speakers include Kathryn Beam, Special Collections librarian; Janet Crayne, head, Slavic and East European Division, U-M Library; Toby Holtzman on collecting Pasternak; Michael Makin, associate professor, LSA Slavic Languages and Literature; Dmitry Urnov, member of the A.M. Gorky Institute of World Literature, Moscow, and retired professor of Russian literature at Adelphi University.
