Don’t miss : Playhouse auction, golf tournament benefit three U-M health facilities

The second annual Champions for Children’s Hearts auction, celebrity gala and golf tournament May 17-18 will be hosted by National Football League players and U-M alumni Brian Griese and Steve Hutchinson.

The event will benefit the new C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital and Women’s Hospital, and the Congenital Heart Center located at the children’s hospital.

The inaugural event in 2007 raised nearly $250,000.

More than 30 celebrity golfers, including several members of the 1997 U-M football championship team, and current and former NFL players and personalities are expected to play May 18 at the U-M Golf Course. Plus, more than 400 celebrity athletes, sponsors and supporters from across the country will be in attendance at a special gala dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 17 at Crisler Arena, which will kick-off the weekend event and feature a live auction.

The featured auction item is the Mott Storybook Cottage, a 90-square-foot playhouse with a faux fireplace made with Motawi tile and Douglas fir, a kitchen complete with Pinnacle cabinetry, a furnished dining room and living room and natural outdoor landscaping. All building materials and services were donated by locally based businesses specializing in construction, architectural design and interior design.

All proceeds from the event support the care provided at the Congenital Heart Center, and construction of the new $523 million children’s and women’s hospital facility, set to open in 2011. With 1.1 million square feet, the facility will provide a new and larger home for the Congenital Heart Center, and other specialty services for newborns, children and pregnant women.
