Peter Baker, former senior White House correspondent for The Washington Post who now reports on the White House for The New York Times, will present the talk “President Obama and the First 100 Days,”
The lecture will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 9 at the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum on North Campus.
Baker is the 2008 Winner of the Gerald R. Ford Journalism Prize for Distinguished Reporting on the Presidency. He will provide insight and perspective on the new administration.
Baker covered the White House during President Bill Clinton’s second term, and co-wrote the story that broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Reporting on President Barack Obama’s Feb. 24 speech to a joint session of Congress, Baker wrote, “Mr. Obama sought to convince an angry, anxious America that a moment of crisis is actually a time for expanding aspirations, not shrinking horizons.”
“He invested his popularity behind a plan that he said would not only ‘restart the engine of our prosperity’ but also transform the country with ‘bold action and big ideas.'”
Baker is the author of the New York Times bestseller, “The Breach: Inside the Impeachment and Trial of William Jefferson Clinton” (Scribner, 2000), and co-author of “Kremlin Rising: Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the End of Revolution” (Scribner, 2005).
