Corpron named to Ward Professorship

The appointment of Prof. Richard E. Corpron to the Marcus L. Ward Professorship of Dentistry was approved by the Regents at their September meeting, effective Sept. 1.

“Dr. Corpron’s contributions to the School, to teaching, and to research have been outstanding,” said School of Dentistry Dean J. Bernard Machen. Corpron is a teacher in pediatric dentistry and conducts research in tooth enamel remineralization.

He joined the U-M as an instructor in basic techniques and oral diagnosis in 1956. He was named assistant professor in 1966, associate professor in 1969 and professor in 1972. He also served as chair of pedodontics in 1969–87.

The Ward professorship is named for Marcus Ward, dean of the School of Dentistry from 1916 to 1934.
