Kenneth C. Fischer, former president of the University Musical Society, recently was named president emeritus by the UMS Board of Directors. The recognition honors his 30-year tenure and legacy of leadership and innovation. Fischer retired from UMS on June 30. Under Fischer’s leadership, UMS officials said the organization expanded and diversified its programming and audiences, deepened its relationship with the University of Michigan and local communities, took and active role in commissioning new works and received significant grant funding.
