Burglaries at two Northwood Apartments
Two apartment doors in the 1700 block of Murfin Avenue were found broken into March 6. The residents were away for spring break. Two televisions, a camera, two watches, a Kindle eReader and cash reportedly were taken sometime between 8 p.m. March 1 and 8 p.m. March 6. There are no suspects.
Ambulance stolen from Emergency Department lot
A man who was waiting to be treated March 1 at the University Hospital Emergency Department drove away in a waiting ambulance. As he left the parking lot, the vehicle’s mirror struck the mirror of another ambulance. The second ambulance driver observed the non-uniformed driver and contacted police. The stolen vehicle was tracked to Huron River Drive, where a Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle. The 19-year-old man, who is not affiliated with the university, was arrested and brought back to the Emergency Department for evaluation. He has been charged with unlawful driving away of an automobile, receiving and concealing stolen property and failure to stop after a collision.
Police investigating two juvenile sexual incidents
A high school student told University Police in late March that more than two years earlier, she had a sexual experience with a former U-M student in the East Quadrangle residence hall. The girl, who was not old enough to give consent for sex, said the encounter occurred in a common area in January 2011. She indicated they used a friend’s MCard to enter the hall. The investigation is continuing.
In a separate incident, two high school students are under investigation by the Ann Arbor Police for having sex although they weren’t old enough to give consent. One of the encounters allegedly occurred in an acquaintance’s apartment in Northwood V. The police report regarding that incident was turned over to the AAPD to combine with the other incidents.
Basketball game ends in assault
A U-M student was treated March 2 at the University Hospital Emergency Department after receiving a punch to the nose during a fight at the Central Campus Recreation Building. He and another student were playing basketball, when the “in-the-paint” positioning turned into an exchange of punches. The county prosecutor authorized a charge of misdemeanor assault.
