   University creates new position to oversee public art collection

   U-M has created a new cross-campus position, curator of art in public spaces, to oversee the display, acquisition and overall curation strategy of its public art collection. Jennifer Carty has been hired for that position.

   The U-M Institute for the Humanities will begin installing the work of Ghanaian artist Ibrahim Mahama, in the form of repurposed jute sacks, on the facade of the U-M Museum of Art Sept. 28.

   ‘Orion’ to be reinstalled at UMMA ahead of sculptor’s appearance

   Mark di Suvero’s 53-foot, 21,220-pound steel sculpture “Orion” will be reinstalled in front of the U-M Museum of Art on Tuesday, followed a day later by a public discussion with the sculptor about the role of public art.
