Work on Maiden Lane, Church Street will detour traffic

Traffic on two city streets near campus will be affected due to repair and utility work over the next few weeks.

Maiden Lane closures for bridge repairs

Beginning Thursday, and lasting until July 22, lane closures will be in place on the Maiden Lane bridge over the Huron River between Island Drive and Fuller Road in order for repairs to be made to the bridge.

For approximately the first four weeks of construction, vehicular traffic crossing the Maiden Lane bridge will be one-way — southbound only — toward the U-M Hospital. Northbound traffic will be detoured via Fuller Road, Glen Avenue, East Huron Street, North Division Street, and Broadway Street back to Maiden Lane.

During the final approximately four weeks of construction, two-way traffic across the Maiden Lane bridge will be restored. Pedestrian traffic crossing the Maiden Lane bridge will be maintained throughout the project.

While the work on the Maiden Lane bridge is occurring, the Fuller Road and East Medical Center Drive bridges will be fully open to traffic.

Church Street closure for utility installation

From June 1 through June 5, weather permitting, Church Street will be closed to through traffic between South University Avenue and Willard Street for utility installation.

Southbound traffic on Church Street will be detoured east on South University Avenue, south on South Forest Avenue, west on Hill Street, and back to Church Street.  Northbound traffic on Church Street will be detoured east on Hill Street, north on South Forest Avenue, west on South University Avenue, and back to Church Street.

Pedestrian traffic will be detoured around the construction area.
