Program helps employees maintain weight into the New Year

Research studies show most adults gain some weight over the holidays.

To help faculty and staff celebrate the season while still maintaining health goals, MHealthy is offering “Move, Lose & Maintain,” an eight-week healthy lifestyle program designed to keep employees moving and eating smarter into the New Year.

The program runs Nov. 17-Jan. 11.

The goal of Move, Lose & Maintain is to get participants moving to maintain their current weight, or even lose a little, by choosing a weekly exercise goal of 90 minutes or more.

To further the commitment, participants pledge $20 through payroll deduction. They keep their $20 by maintaining (or losing) weight and exercising at least three days a week for at least 30 minutes total a day throughout the program.

If the don’t meet those objectives, the $20 will be deducted and donated to the U-M Emergency Hardship Fund, which provides assistance for U-M employees who are experiencing an immediate, severe and temporary financial situation due to an emergency.

To register, attend one of the following weigh-in sessions, Oct. 24-Nov. 14. Registration takes less than 10 minutes and participants’ weight will be measured by an MHealthy staff member. Participants will also receive a program booklet to log their weekly exercise. During the program, participants will get weekly emails with helpful tips and advice.

I did this program over the summer after a shocking February Wellness Check and more than met my goal by the time the program ended in August. I found it very helpful and will sign-up again!
