Suspect still sought in Diag sexual assault

University police still are seeking information regarding a suspect in an April 21 sexual assault on the Diag. A student reported that as she walked along the Diag near the Kraus Natural Science building around 1 p.m., she was approached by an unknown man who forcibly put his face in her chest. She pushed him away and continued walking.

He is described as a black male; 50-60 years old; 5 feet, 4 inches; medium complexion; hunched over; with short, black hair and a straggly beard; wearing a dark green, long-sleeve shirt and dark pants and carrying a red sling-type bag. Crime Alert No. 14-3 was issued by the Division of Public Safety and Security regarding the incident.

Suspects in Diag assault identified

The investigation into a reported assault of a pedestrian on the Diag by two unknown subjects around 2 a.m. April 6 has been submitted to the county prosecutor for review of possible arrest charges. The pedestrian reported that he and a friend had been yelling at other pedestrians before he was assaulted. The victim was treated at the University Hospital. Two suspects were identified through the investigation. 

Student reports two assaults by an acquaintance

A student told university police that another student had assaulted her on two occasions in a lounge at the Martha Cook residence hall. Police continue to investigate the report.

Laptop taken, recovered at West Quad

A laptop that reportedly had been taken from a West Quadrangle residence room on April 4 was recovered behind a washing machine several days later. The owner had reported the theft occurred between 9 p.m. April 3 and 10:50 a.m. April 4. There were no signs of forced entry, but the room door had been left open several times during the timeframe. 

Follow-up investigation identified a possible suspect and led officers to search common areas on another floor of the building. The laptop was located in a backpack in a laundry room. 

Two res hall burglaries with no suspects

Two students reported to police in April that property had been removed from their residence hall rooms. There were no signs of forced entry and there are no suspects in either case.

On April 26, a laptop reportedly was taken from a room in Markley Hall sometime between 9:30-10 p.m. On April 13, a student reported that a jewelry case had been taken from her Couzens Hall room sometime between March 22 and 29.

Moped stolen from outside Markley Hall

A student reported April 29 that his moped had been stolen from the outdoor moped parking area next to Markley Hall. He reportedly had parked the moped around 3 a.m. and noticed it was missing at 2:30 p.m. There are no suspects.
