Sexual assault reported at North Quad

A visitor told university police that she had been assaulted by a man in his North Quad residence room on July 15. The man was identified as a conference participant and evicted from the residence hall for a separate violation. The complainant did not want to pursue assault charges and the case has been closed.

Visitor assaulted with skateboard on Diag

A juvenile petition with three assault charges was authorized Aug. 4 for a 15-year-old Ann Arbor teenager in connection with a July 14 assault on the Diag. The suspect and two other teenagers reportedly were arguing and fighting with another campus visitor, a 29-year-old Ann Arbor man, when the teenager reportedly brandished a pocket knife and then struck the victim in the head with a skateboard. The three teenagers had fled the scene before police arrived, and the victim was treated at the University Hospital Emergency Department.

Register bikes, lock with u-bolt locks

Campus community members are encouraged to reduce thefts of their bicycles by registering them with the Division of Public Safety and Security and using U-locks when parked on campus.  Recently DPSS has received an increased number of reports of bicycles stolen from campus locations; most of the owners indicate they had used a cable or combination lock to secure their bicycle. Unfortunately, bike thieves easily can defeat the cable locks. The U-locks are much more difficult for thieves to remove. Visit the DPSS website at www.dpss.umich.edu to register bicycles and electronic devices.
