Two students accused of assaulting a student

Two students were arraigned Jan. 8 in connection with a sexual assault of another student that reportedly occurred Dec. 6 in Markley Hall. The suspects each have been charged with criminal sexual conduct, first degree, and capturing and distributing an image of an unclothed person. They posted $25,000 bail and are awaiting a Jan. 23 preliminary examination. Reportedly the suspects met the student at a party and brought her back to their room, where the assault occurred. 

Student reports assault in her apartment

A student told university police that an acquaintance had sexually assaulted her in her Northwood Apartment Dec. 13. When she demanded that the visitor leave her apartment, he reportedly left with her cell phone. The investigation has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s office for review of possible charges.

Nurse grabbed by emergency patient

A patient in the University Hospital emergency department reportedly inappropriately grabbed a nurse twice while being treated. The nurse did not require medical assistance. The investigation has been submitted to the county prosecutor’s office for review of possible charges.

Attempted robbery near Hatcher Library

A student reported to university police that two males had attempted to rob him while he walked Dec. 7 between Hatcher Library and Haven Hall. The student said he was approached by two unknown men around 1:50 a.m. One man reportedly punched the student in the head, knocking him down. The student also was kicked twice. One man began searching the student’s pockets, but fled west toward State Street when other people approached. No property was taken and the student did not seek medical assistance.

The suspects are described as a black male, between 6 feet and 6 feet, 3 inches tall, 35-40 years old, with a goatee and wearing a black hoodie pulled over his head and a blue neck warmer. There was no description available of the second male.

Botanical Gardens house burglarized

Personal property reportedly was taken Dec. 21 during a home invasion of a rental house at the Matthaei Botanical Gardens. Computers and equipment, a television set, jewelry and clothing reportedly were taken sometime between 12:20 and 10:30 p.m. The front door had been found kicked in and the house was ransacked.  There are no suspects.

Attempted burglary at Baits I

Evidence was found Dec. 24 that an unknown subject had attempted to pry open an exterior window at Baits I Smith House sometime during the month. No entry was gained and the case is closed due to no leads.
