New Dance Building approved for North Campus

The Department of Dance within the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance will expand with the construction of a new 24,000-square-foot space on North Campus. The Board of Regents approved the project on May 17.

The new Dance Building will be built adjacent to the Brehm Pavilion at the Earl V. Moore Building and include a 100-seat performance venue, dance studios and locker rooms, as well as administrative space.

The $19 million project will be funded by SMTD gifts and resources, and investment proceeds.

Bloomfield Hills architectural firm TMP Architecture Inc. will design the project. Design work is scheduled to begin immediately and the university will return with a construction schedule with approval of a schematic design.

The project is expected to provide an average of 27 on-site construction jobs. There will be a temporary loss of parking spaces on North Campus during construction, and a net improvement of parking once the work is completed.
