MSU receives $3M grant to support FRIB project

Michigan State University has received a $3 million grant from the Michigan Department of Transportation. The grant will support infrastructure improvements near the under-construction Facility for Rare Isotope Beams. The funding will help pay for road projects to improve traffic flow around the facility. MSU is establishing the FRIB as a new scientific user facility for the Office of Nuclear Physics in the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Science. 

Oakland receives $2.2M NIH grant for arthritis research

A project at Oakland University led by Professor Yang Xia has received a $2.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health. The study will monitor what happens to the body before osteoarthritis sets in.  According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, osteoarthritis is the leading cause of disability in the country.

Penn celebrates opening of Stephen A. Levin Building

The University of Pennsylvania officially opened the Stephen A. Levin Building with a dedication ceremony. The building operates as a new hub for the neural and behavioral sciences on campus. The six-story building was a $68.6 million project and integrates psychology, biology and behavioral sciences with research laboratories, teaching facilities and study space. The building was made possible by a $15 million gift from alumnus Stephen A. Levin.

OSU receives $6.5M grant for health care institute creation

The Ohio State University College of Nursing has been awarded a $6.5 million grant to establish The Helene Fuld Health Trust National Institute for Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing and Healthcare. The institute will be a hub for teaching the best practices to improve health care quality and patient outcomes and conducting research to determine best strategies to translate evidence-based interventions into clinical settings. The institute will launch in October 2017.

UCLA receives $5M gift for new soccer stadium

The UCLA athletic department has received a $5 million commitment from the Annenberg Foundation. The gift will lead the planned transformation of the North Athletic Field into the new home of UCLA men’s and women’s soccer, as well as club sport programs. In recognition of the gift, the venue will be dedicated as the Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Construction will begin in fall 2016.
