Wayne State partners with WCC for business degree program

The Wayne State University Mike Ilitch School of Business has announced a new agreement with Washtenaw Community College. The partnership will allow WCC students who have completed an associate degree in business, accounting or supply chain management to transfer up to 82 credits to Wayne State toward earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business. The agreement maximizes associate degrees earned, as usually 64 transfer credits are accepted.

SVSU, Dow dedicate mobile science lab

Saginaw Valley State University and The Dow Chemical Co. recently unveiled and dedicated a mobile science laboratory. The laboratory is outfitted with state of the art instruments and will be used to conduct water quality testing and other research. It is operated through the Dow Science and Sustainability Education Center at SVSU and will travel to K-12 schools throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region to stimulate interest in STEM fields.

OSU approves new master’s programs, new center established

The Ohio State University has approved new master’s degree programs, including a master of film studies degree program in the College of Arts and Sciences and a master of health care innovation degree program in the College of Nursing. The trustees also approved the establishment of The Higher Education Center for Alcohol and Drug Misuse Prevention and Recovery. Faculty, staff and students in the colleges of social work and pharmacy worked to establish the new OSU center following the closing of a federally funded center in 2012.

Indiana University breaks ground on new graduate center

Indiana University-Bloomington recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Paul H. O’Neill Graduate Center at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs. The center is a $12 million project that will offer advanced learning and meeting spaces and will adjoin the School of Public and Environmental Affairs’ current building. Construction is expected to be completed in early 2017.

U. of Chicago receives $5M for cancer research

The University of Chicago Medicine recently received a $5 million donation from the Hospira Foundation. The gift will establish of the Hospira Foundation Professorship of Oncology. The remainder of the gift will be invested in various cancer research programs under the endowed chair. The gift follows a similar donation to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
