MSU men’s basketball receives $3.1 million gift

Draymond Green recently made a $3.1 million contribution to Michigan State University Athletics in support of the men’s basketball team. The gift will contribute to the naming of the Draymond Green Strength and Conditioning Center at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center in his honor as the center undergoes a comprehensive renovation. It will also create an endowment for the program. The donation is the largest single gift to MSU Athletics from a former student-athlete.

LSSU continues renovation on new R.W. Considine Hall

Lake Superior State University is renovating South Hall, establishing the new R.W. Considine Hall. Considine Hall will house the  Lukenda School of Business, which will open for classes in fall 2016. A $13.5 million project, the building will include classroom and office renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and new program rooms and support space, including a securities trading lab, and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Purdue Center for Science of Information receives $23 million from NSF

The National Science Foundation has awarded The Center for Science of Information at Purdue University $23 million over the next five years. The only National Science Foundation Science and Technology Center in Indiana, the center focuses on extending classical information theory to meet new challenges posed by the expansion and complexity of available data, and conducts research efforts exploring life sciences, economics, communication systems, social sciences, and more. This award follows the NSF’s $25 million award in 2010 to establish the center. The new grant extends the total span of funding to 10 years.  

$10M gift awarded to University of Maryland School of Business

The University of Maryland was awarded $10 million from the Robert H. Smith Family Foundation to support the Robert H. Smith School of Business. A portion of the gift will go towards the MBA Scholarship fund, providing financial aid for students. The gift will also help advance the school’s commitment to reality-based learning by enabling the development of programs to enhance leadership learning opportunities outside of the classroom. It will also fund facility renovations, and support the Center for Social Value Creation. 

UNC announces new School of Media and Journalism research center

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill announced a plan to open a research center at the UNC School of Media and Journalism. The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is investing $3 million in the center, in addition to a $1 million match from the University Provost’s Office. The center’s research will explore new models for community, and focus on finding patterns and strategies to better sustain legacy news organizations and digital startups in the 21st century.
