MIDAS study gains $2.8 million in NIH grants

Pej Rohani, Pearl L. Kendrick Collegiate Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Complex Systems, has been awarded $2.8 million in Models of Infectious Disease Agent Study grants from the National Institutes of Health. He is principal investigator on a MIDAS center grant focusing on the study of dengue and polio. The project grant proposes to develop methods for forecasting epidemics of emerging infectious diseases. Rohani is collaborating with Bogdan Epureanu, professor of mechanical engineering, and colleagues at Penn State University and the University of Georgia.

Regents meeting set for Nov. 20

The Board of Regents will have its monthly meeting at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Anderson Room, Michigan Union. To offer public comment at the meeting, sign up in advance at www.regents.umich.edu/meetings/publform.html. Public comments on agenda items will be taken prior to their consideration. Comments on nonagenda items will follow the regular business agenda. CEW seeks nominations for Hollenshead award

The Center for the Education of Women seeks nominations for the Carol Hollenshead Award for Excellence in Promoting Equity and Social Change. The award is designed to honor individuals or groups whose sustained efforts resulted in greater equity in the university community or beyond in regard to gender, race, sexual orientation, ability or other identities. All U-M faculty and staff members are eligible, regardless of their gender. Nominations are due Jan. 6. Criteria and forms are at tinyurl.com/HollensheadAward.
