Michigan Medicine earns top nursing recognition

Michigan Medicine has been awarded magnet recognition — the highest honor in nursing — by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. The Magnet Recognition Program recognizes health care organizations for quality patient care, nursing excellence and innovations in professional nursing practice. As part of the Magnet process, faculty and staff submitted hundreds of pages of documents and measurements in more than 100 standards of excellence to the credentialing center.

Reminder: Time change provides opportunity for password changes

University of Michigan Information and Technology Services officials say the start of daylight saving time March 12 is a good time to change U-M passwords. ITS recommends U-M passwords should be changed every six months. For more information, visit tinyurl.com/hf5ofpz.

Voices of the Staff accepting applications for new members

Voices of the Staff, a volunteer-based program that gives staff members a forum for sharing ideas and defining the campus community issues that matter most, is accepting applications for new members this month. Voices of the Staff consists of six network teams, each with a specific area of focus, including career development, embracing change, ideal work experience, leveraging technology, work-life flexibility and diversity, equity and inclusion. Network teams are often called on to provide creative and effective staff input, develop resources and special events and meet with key university leaders. Interested staff must apply for membership by March 31 by visiting voices.umich.edu.

U-M ecologist named AAAS public engagement fellow

The American Association for the Advancement of Science has named University of Michigan ecologist Meghan Duffy a 2017-18 Public Engagement Fellow. Duffy, associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology, LSA, is one of 15 infectious disease researchers to receive the honor. The fellows have demonstrated leadership and excellence in their research careers, as well as an interest in promoting meaningful dialogue between science and society. Duffy’s research focuses on the ecology and evolutions of infectious diseases, especially in aquatic ecosystems. At U-M, she is involved in various diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and is developing a unit in the Wolverine Pathways program for high school students from Detroit, Southfield and Ypsilanti. The fellows will convene in June for a week of public engagement and science communication training, networking and public engagement plan development. After the training, they will return to their institutions with resources and connections to develop and implement public engagement activities, training opportunities and increased capacity for public engagement leadership.

MStaff200 seeks table display participants

The MStaff200 bicentennial event Departmental Displays Committee invites U-M campus and Michigan Medicine departments to participate in the event with a table display showcasing the positive impact their unit or department staff has demonstrated through their service to the university community. The 4-foot x 30-inch display tables will need to be staffed from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To register for a table, visit tinyurl.com/gszlk97. The deadline to reserve a display is March 17.
