Research prize honors memory of Medical School, Dentistry employee

A new award will be presented each year to a School of Dentistry researcher in memory of Jan Berry, a long-time staff member recognized for her love of science and support of her colleagues. Berry worked at the Medical School for 17 years and the School of Dentistry for 21 years. She last worked as a laboratory manager and research associate in the Department of Periodontics and Oral Medicine before she retired. The family of Berry, who died Feb. 4, created the $1,000 award to recognize a full-time researcher who may be currently experiencing a financial hardship. The applicant must have demonstrated excellence in research, teaching, mentoring, service and leadership. The Janice E. Berry Prize for Excellence in Research will be presented annually in February at the Research Day awards ceremony. The application deadline for the inaugural Berry award is Jan. 15. Contact the Office of Research and Training for application information by sending an email to sodresoff@umich.edu.
