Advisory committee selected in Taubman College dean search

Topics:

Provost Martha E. Pollack has appointed an advisory committee to search for a new dean of the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. The search process is underway.

Margaret Dewar, professor of urban and regional planning and faculty director of the Real Estate Development Certificate Program at the Taubman College, is chairing the committee charged with conducting a broad search and presenting an unranked slate of recommended candidates.

In an email to faculty and staff at the college, Pollack wrote that Dean Monica Ponce de Leon will step down Dec. 31 to become dean of the School of Architecture at Princeton University. Robert Fishman, professor of architecture and urban planning, has been appointed interim dean of the Taubman College and will serve through June 30, 2016.

Additional members of the search committee include:

• Elana Abraham, Master of Architecture student and graduate student instructor

• María Arquero de Alarcón, assistant professor of architecture and urban and regional planning, and director of the Master of Urban Design Program, Taubman College.

• Pierre Batton, Master of Urban Planning student, and co-president of the Urban Planning Student Association, Taubman College.

• Craig Borum, professor of architecture, Taubman College.

• Malik Goodwin, alumnus and lecturer in architecture and urban planning, Taubman College.

• Sharon Haar, professor and chair, Architecture Program, Taubman College.

• Janice Harvey, director, Development and Alumni Relations, Taubman College.

• Glenn Wilcox, associate professor of architecture, Taubman College.

• Claire Zimmerman, associate professor of architecture and coordinator of doctoral studies in architecture, Taubman College; and associate professor of history of art, LSA.

In her July email, Provost Pollack noted that during Ponce de Leon’s tenure as dean, “the Taubman College’s reputation and standing have risen to a new stature among schools around the country. (She) built a vision for the future of the college, and leaves a legacy of strong programs, new opportunities for students to specialize in focused areas, and the A. Alfred Taubman Wing of the Art & Architecture Building.”
