Jerry Blackstone

Jerry Blackstone, director of choral activities, professor and chair of conducting, School of Music, Theatre & Dance, was recently named an Honorary Life Member of the National Collegiate Choral Organization. The organization selects Honorary Life Members to recognize a member of the choral profession who has devoted his or her life to the enhancement and artistic growth of the choral art. The award recognizes those leaders in the profession who have mentored young conductors, inspired singers, supported music educators in the arts and shared their talents and gifts in the United States and abroad.

Richard Abel

Richard Abel, professor emeritus of international film and media, LSA, recently received the Jean Mitry Award, which is given out each year at the Giornate del Cinema Muto/Silent Film Festival in Pordenone, Italy. The recognition honors individuals and institutions that have made outstanding contributions to the preservation and appreciation of the world’s silent film heritage. The award is named in honor of Jean Mitry, the celebrated French film historian and the Giornate’s first honorary president.
