Ruth Dunkle, associate dean for faculty and academic affairs and Wilbur J. Cohen Collegiate Professor of Social Work, School of Social Work, was elected president of the Society for Social Work and Research. The Society for Social Work and Research is dedicated to the advancement of social work research, and represents more than 1,300 members from more than 200 universities and institutions. Dunkle previously chaired U-M’s joint doctoral program in social work and social science, and was the director of the University Center on Aging and Health at Case Western Reserve University.

Lorraine Gutiérrez, Arthur F. Thurnau Professor, professor of social work and program director for the diversity, equity and inclusion program, School of Social Work; and professor of psychology, LSA, will receive the 2017 Distinguished Contributions to Teaching and Mentoring in Qualitative Inquiry Award from the American Psychological Association. This award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring within the field of qualitative inquiry. Gutiérrez is a fellow at the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare.
