Clinical Assistant Professor of Nursing in the School of Nursing Katie A. Moriarty has been elected to the American College of Nurse-Midwives Board of Directors. She will represent Region IV, which covers seven states, and she will serve as a liaison between the region and the board of directors. ACNM works to lead the profession through education, clinical practice, research and advocacy.

To support his project examining the development and commercialization of the Internet from 1980-96, Douglas Van Houweling, professor of information and associate dean for research and innovation in the School of Information, has been awarded a $300,000 National Science Foundation EAGER grant. Working with Lawrence Landweber from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Van Houweling will analyze the history of the Internet, and the NSF’s role in the Internet’s progression.

Dr. Mark Fitzgerald, associate professor of dentistry in the Department of Cariology, Restorative Sciences and Endodontics, School of Dentistry, recently received the American Dental Education Association/Colgate-Palmolive Excellence in Teaching Award during the ADEA’s annual session in San Antonio, Texas. Fitzgerald was recognized as an outstanding educator who developed the first electronic syllabi at the School of Dentistry and online quiz and exam software for dental students, among other advances.
